Pest Control

Mice, Rats and other Rodents

Rats and mice have been part of human story since before human civilisation, sharing scraps of food from human waste. Unlike cats and dogs that humans successfully domesticated to serve our purposes, rats and mice have become a health risk to humans as they carry diseases such as Weil’s disease, E.coli, salmonella, tuberculosis and cryptosporidiosis.

They also carry ticks and mites along with fleas. It was these fleas that the great plague which killed millions in Europe was attributed to spreading the disease.

Rodents teeth grow constantly and to keep them in trim, rodents have to chew constantly and they will readily chew through electric wires, wooden furniture, plastic pipes and even concrete which can be expensive to remedy as well as obvious risks of fire.

Moles
Most people will never see a mole in their lifetime as they live a subterranean existence. However, we have all seen the damage they can cause to parks, gardens and lawns.

Squirrels
Squirrels are regarded as the cute and cuddly branch of the rodent family, however, they share most of the bad attributes of other members of the rodent family. Significant damage can be caused to properties and gardens.

Fleas, Flies, Bed Bugs, Flying and Crawling insects

Bed Bugs

All recent surveys show that due to the opening of borders and easy air travel to humans that bed bugs are on the increase in this country and most significant cities are showing this trend. They are notoriously difficult to treat and they spread very quickly and easily.

Fleas

Fleas can be an embarrassing companion and are prevalent when we share our homes with cats and dogs and other pets. Fleas can also be brought into the property by other pest species such as rodents.

Ants

Ants are very rarely noticed, mainly in our gardens, however from spring to autumn their numbers significantly increase which can bring them into our homes. They will often search out our food stores sending information back to the nest in a chemical trail for others to follow.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches are notoriously difficult to treat.

They can breed very quickly and they can become very resilient to treatments. They also carry salmonella, typhoid, dysentery and gastroenteritis.

Their numerous droppings can also cause asthma and eczema. Cockroaches are not only unsightly but they give off an odour that can be detected in food, clothing and upholstery.

Wasps and Wasp Nests

These pests can be a particular problem to people who are allergic to their stings.

This produces a scare factor amongst people who just hear the noise of the buzz.

Woodworm, Dry and Wet Rot

All of the above cause significant damage to our homes, furniture and possessions. Most cases of wet and dry rot have an underline cause which is normally associated with dampness ingressing into a building. Woodworm isn’t a worm as we know them, but a beetle.

The damage caused by woodworm is from the lava stage when the adult beetle has layed it’s eggs in tiny crevices in furniture or woodwork in buildings. Once flight holes are detected this means that the beetle has already attacked the wood and could have been present for up 3 years.
